During the game, there will be two scenarios. You can steal blinds from other players or other players will be getting yours.

How you will react to the kind of scenario you have depends if you are playing in a poker tournament or battling it out in a cash game.

Tournament

Blind stealing is most potent when you are playing in tournaments. You cannot wait for excellent cards when you have a very short stack and you want to regain some chips. Blind stealing gives you the opportunity to regain some position.

It may not be that beneficial though during the early parts of the tournament since the blinds are pretty low. It is not worth fighting for and most likely the opponents will just raises since their chips are still comparatively higher.

Cash Games

Blind stealing is not that profitable during cash games. The blinds are relatively small compared to your stack. It will be best for you to stick with good hands and do not risk your chips too much when you don’t have cards worth playing.

Defending the Blind

Remember that when you post a blind, the money belongs to the pot and is no longer yours. You might feel the need to defend the blind sometimes but you should not do this every round. At times you can re-raise and let other players think twice. You might be digging a hole for yourself if you keep on defending the pot and in the end not hitting the flop, this can cost you a mountain of chips!
